How handmade ceramic objects are made
by Marrit Jagers op Akkerhuis
Handmade ceramic objects go through a slow and considered making process. Every piece starts with carefully selected stoneware clay and is shaped by hand, mainly on the wheel.
After forming, each object dries slowly before the first firing. This stage, known as the bisque firing, prepares the ceramic for glazing. After glazing, each piece is fired again.
This slow ceramic making process allows the material and the hand of the maker to remain visible.
