How graphic thinking shapes ceramic objects
by Marrit Jagers op Akkerhuis
Graphic design and ceramics share more than you might expect. For me graphic thinking plays an important role in shaping ceramic objects.
Form, proportion, balance and negative space are central in both disciplines. When designing ceramic objects, decisions are guided by composition, rhythm and contrast, principles borrowed directly from graphic design.
This approach results in ceramic design that feels structured, minimal and intentional. Each object is developed through sketches, small tests and material studies before moving into final production.
