About
Studio JOA is a ceramic design studio founded by Marrit Jagers op Akkerhuis.
With a background in graphic design, Marrit approaches clay with a designer’s eye, focusing on proportion, contrast and composition.
Each object is shaped slowly by hand, allowing the process and the character of the material to remain visible.
Every object develops through research, sketching, sampling and experimentation.
Classic wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques form the foundation of the work, while these traditional methods are continuously explored and reinterpreted.
Documenting the objects is also an important part of the process.
Through photography I try to capture the material, form and atmosphere of each piece.
