I’m Marrit Jagers op Akkerhuis (JOA).
Designer, ceramic artist, and mother of two.

I started working with clay as a child, taking lessons at a small art school in Wageningen. I had no idea then that it would ever become my life. Decades later, I'm still at it, and I'm grateful for that every day.

I work as a designer for brands and as a ceramic artist, both, always. One behind the screen, one with my hands in the clay. The two worlds feed each other constantly. A designer's eye for proportion, contrast and composition, combined with the slow, intuitive logic of making by hand.

Three years ago I moved from Amsterdam to Noordwijkerhout with my family. Since January 2026, my home studio has been up and running, and I've never felt more at home in my work. Each object is shaped by hand, allowing the character of the material to remain visible. Made in small batches, often using recycled clay, fired with solar energy, with the intention of creating objects that last a lifetime.

I make ceramic objects for people who care about what surrounds them. Handmade, original, and honest, somewhere between art and design. Work that brings quiet and authenticity into a space.

  • Every object develops through research, sketching, sampling and experimentation.

Classic wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques form the foundation, continuously explored and reinterpreted.

  • Documenting the work is part of the process. Through photography and film, the material, form and atmosphere of each piece are carefully captured.
